New and Exciting Things

Joseph and Kenny never cease to surprise us. The other day we were sitting down to read scriptures. Joseph was playing with some toys in the living room. I was holding Kenny, and Elizabeth wondered aloud where the Bumbo was. The Bumbo is a little chair for babies to help them sit up; it prevents them from falling over. I mentioned that I had seen it last under Kenny's crib, but I wasn't sure if it was still there.

We got talking about something else, and then both of us heard Joseph struggling with something. We looked up to see him leaning backward with the Bumbo is his hands, attempting to balance and stay upright while carrying it to Elizabeth. He barely was able to get it to her. He must have thought she wanted it, even though neither of us asked him to get it. The little guy certainly understands a lot more than we think, and is listening to us all the time.

Lately Joseph has gotten excited about violins. Elizabeth's mom sent us a 1/16 size violin for Joseph to learn on. The first thing Elizabeth taught him was the proper position to hold the violin - tucked under the chin, pressed against the shoulder. He's seen Elizabeth play it some also. We realized that he understood the positioning when he saw Kenny today with an apple slice that somehow ended up on his shoulder, and Joseph pointed to it and started to pretend to play the violin. He gets really happy when he can practice on the real thing:

Kenny's favorite thing lately is standing up. He strongly dislikes sitting on the ground, unless there is some object nearby he can fit in his mouth. When we offer him our hands, this is what he does:

One last thing that Joseph wants to do every day - stomp in puddles. We had a couple days of heavy rain last week, so Elizabeth got out a little raincoat for Joseph and took him outside while Kenny was asleep. So many puddles to stomp in!
